When NOT to Wear Nerd Glasses

If you’ve read my recent posts, you’ll see that nerd glasses are everywhere. They’re one of the hottest trends right now for both guys and girls of all styles. They can be worn preppy and look really cool or even urban and still look real cool. All of the celebs are rockin’ them and I always see people wearing them in the club scene. But there’s definitely one time you do not rock them, and that’s when you are wearing an evening gown or cocktail dress.

When I say evening gown or cocktail dress, I mean a dressy dress, not a casual one, which you would wear to a wedding, special event, or red carpet event such as The Emmys like Rachael Harris wears seen below. First off, I’m def not a fan of her dress. But anyways, the nerd glasses should not be worn here. Don’t tell me they’re prescription. She can afford contacts if that’s the case. This trendy, casual style of glasses does not go with a long, evening gown such as this. It only makes her look nerdier! Nerd glasses look cool with casual wear, but with a gown? Only nerdier. They lose their whole effect.

So if you sport the nerd glasses, please stick to street wear like flannel shirts, sneakers, cardigans, vests, jeans…you get the idea.

Ryan Gosling Gears Up For His New Film “Drive” at the 2011 LA Film Festival

The always well-dressed and handsome Ryan Gosling attended the LA Film Festival at Regal Cinemas L.A. on Friday, June 17th for the premiere of his upcoming film “Drive” sporting a gorgeous dark blue suit that brings out his baby blues with a crisp white shirt underneath…no need for a tie to complete this look! Although, he is wearing bright red socks… it’s not the 4th of July yet Ryan! ;) I’ll let him get away with it though because he’s sexy. Now excuse mewhile I drool while watching Fracture which I just rented because he’s in it. Hehe.

Those socks blend in with the red carpet perfectly. Lol.

Gaga Carried onto the Grammys 2011 Red Carpet In an Egg

Sorry I have been gone for awhile. I completely missed the Grammys. But hear me out! I just moved to South Florida for a job a few months ago and I also just moved into an apartment. Everything is new and exciting right now, as well as super busy, and I didn’t get internet in my apartment until this week. Or cable. Actually I am getting cable this week. So back to blogging…finally! Sorry my Fashion Feen readers!! I hope you forgive me!

Now, I shall touch on the subject everybody has been talking about for the past week. Yeah, yeah, Lady Gaga arrived to the Grammys this year, in a freaking egg. She had supermodels carrying her in. We all heard about it. Are you surprised? I wonder if it’s her or her people, or both, who come up with these ideas on how to be more shocking than the last time. What will they come up with next? So, what was she wearing in there? That’s what I want to know, yet I can’t find one single picture of her “hatching,” shall I say, because everyone is so obsessed with the fact that she was in an egg. How did she breathe in there anyway?

I’m curious to know what statement she was trying to make this time.

Nicki Minaj seems to be a Lady Gaga fashion follower as well. I swear, does every celebrity have to be so darn outrageously dressed? Can’t anyone just look normal and classy like Jennifer Aniston always does? Keep it simple! She gets just as much media attention looking normal! And what’s up with the Frankenstein hair?! Ay yi yi! I’m so over it!

Has the VMA’s Turned into Halloween?

Honestly, all the female stars do not know how to dress for an awards show. I realize Lady Gaga is always trying to make a statement, and what better way to get the word out than wearing a meat dress to the VMA’s when you’re one of the biggest stars there? But, what statement are the rest of them trying to make? What’s with the hot pink and blue extensions? New trend? I’m not feeling it. It’s great for Halloween but this is not Halloween. I feel like most of the females on the red carpet wear straight up costumes. Katy Perry for one. She is a beautiful girl and I think she looks great, but tell me, how does pink and blue hair extensions match a black and white lacy dress? It doesn’t go. The dress and the hair are trying to pull of two very different looks.

Not to mention, it looks like an costume an ice skater would wear. What happened to looking classy and glamorous in a more simple gown like Ashley Greene pictured below.

Beautifully highlighted hair, a great cocktail dress, and some black heels. Her look is pulled together and she looks attractive whereas some of the other female stars look plain silly.

A Little Black Dress With an Edge

All women must own an LBD! Or two! Or five! Hell, I have quite a few little black dresses in my closet. They will never go out of style and work for any occasion. But, you don’t always have to just wear a plain old LBD with plain old black heels and a silver necklace. Boring. You can totally make that LBD edgy by pairing it with a motorcycle jacket. This trend is huge on the red carpet. See below: Victoria Justice of the hit tv show, “Victorious” on Nick. I only watched it while babysitting. Shut up.

Victoria rocks her LBD with a maroon, leather motorcycle jacket pushed up at the sleeves. Classy with an edge!

Rose Petals for Boobs?

You know it’s bad when there’s gathered fabric that resembles rose petals right on your boobs and you STILL look flat as a pancake.

And why would you want people staring at your twins all night?

I must say, if that material wasn’t there, the dress would have been gorgeous on her. Because honestly, I like the dress, the mauve shade, and the trumpet  style gown. Also, the red lips just don’t go with this look. Nude lips or a light pink would have suited this better.

A big trend I noticed on the Red Carpet at the 2010 Oscars was nude/gray dresses with super pale skin and platinum blonde hair.

I’m down with the Anne Hathaway look: dark brown locks with red lips and pale skin, but with light hair, skin, and a nude dress…you’re almost a ghost.

Amanda Seyfried, is your hair GRAY?

You’re such a pretty girl, why must you make yourself look 40 years older than you really are? You’re hair can’t match your dress! This does nothing for her. Moving on…

Demi, girl, you look HOT! 47? There’s no way you’re nearing 50.

She looks absolutely gorgeous in this bronze dress, with a lil tan herself, and the sexy piece of hair in front of her face. Ashton, you’re a lucky man! She looks younger now than she did back in the day with short hair, (i.e., Ghost).

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are closer in age than Demi and Ashton but look how style can totally make it seem otherwise. You really can control how old or young you look!

This dress is so unflattering to her shape, it makes her look heavy and way older than she is. Not even a 60 something year old would wear this dress, see below.

I definitely want to look like this at 64. The whole ensemble is age appropriate but still has a young and sexy feel to it. Helen Mirren deserves a lot of credit for looking so good.

Another cougar! Jane Seymour is just radiant in this dress..hot hot hot! Her hair, everything..A+ in my book.

Miley looks STUNNING but for some reason I think she also is trying to look older. Ah well, still looks great. Love her hair and earrings.

The Queen..honestly, doesn’t she always look fabulous? She never fails to amaze me. I have nothing bad to say. =)

As for the men, they all looked great. I don’t believe any of them went for anything too crazy or wild. The only difference between any of them was whether they wore a bowtie or a tie. Haha. The bowtie trend is definitely big right now. We’ll use Jake Gyllenhaal to represent the men.

Handsome in his Burberry tuxedo!

Let’s throw Zac Efron in there too, for the “tie” boys. Plus, I love his messy, spiky hair.

Red Carpet: Gaga at the Grammys

Lady Gaga truly is the queen of high fashion. Here she is on the red carpet at last night’s 2010 Grammy’s wearing this custom-made Armani Satellite dress with a star accessory and studded crystal platform shoes. And, forget blonde, go yellow!

She looks really pretty I must say, and her performance with Elton John was beautiful.

Noteworthy Looks at the 2010 SAG Awards

Fashion Feen’s best dressed at the 2010 SAG Awards Red Carpet goes to:

Diane Kruger.

She looks stunning. I think this is the only time I’ve seen a mustard shade of yellow work and look elegant as ever. I love the one shoulder..it’s sexy yet super classy. I love the texture of the dress around the waist area. It’s so flattering and stream-lined on her, not to mention her pose is just perfect. Swept back hair and red lips…Beautiful!

Runner Ups:

Christina Applegate. Great deep V-neck, silvery, powder blue like the color of the clouds..she just sparkles in this dress. Beautiful texture and wrap from the neckline to the waist. The frilly cut at the bottom of the dress adds a nice girly touch.

Jennifer Carpenter. Super foxy volume of hair adds an edge to this short, crisp white, sleeved dress. Long sleeved dresses are hot, and create the perfect balance and permission to show off her mile long legs. Pointed shoulders create a high fashion look- I can so see Rihanna in this dress.

Meryll Streep. I love this dress! I love how she’s sporting a long sleeved floor-length dress with an exotic print, and it’s not overboard at all! The subtle shades of green and blue paired with the bright green balance it out as well as the deep V which shows a slither of skin. Cinched at the waist with a wide, black cut-out belt pulls this look together!

And the best dressed for the male category goes to:

Justin Timberlake. My fave male celeb of all time hands down. He has become so stylish as he matured. I love how he threw a blue shirt with some texture, (I won’t call them ruffles in case he gets offended lol), underneath this sexy black suit to make his eyes REALLY pop. It’s the perfect shade of blue too, not too bright. Bringin’ bow-ties back as well. Strikingly handsome overall! =)

Runner up:

Adam Lambert. This suit is so gorgeous, he really looks like a million bucks in it. His hair is wild but hey, that’s Adam and it’s his way of showing off his personal style while still looking pulled together and classy, well done. And you know what? He looks really sexy with the guy liner. Better than Pete Wentz. Sorry Pete.

Ciara at BET Hip Hop Awards

Doesn’t she look fabulous? I think she looks amazing. I love how this ensemble starts with a black, silk blouse and then turns into a fitted, tube dress. Very unique and sexy!

Style at The 2008 Emmy Awards

Christina Applegate looks lovely. I like the dress, it’s very different, I’m just not a fan of the overflowing fabric that is attached to the back/side of the dress. No use for it.

Lauren Conrad always looks simple but sometimes just a bit drab. I like the loose waves of hair with the rest pulled back, the dress is nice but for someone older I would think. She’s a hot, young thing, she should be showing off those legs!

Marcia Cross looks nice with very neutral, simple makeup to match her neutral colored dress. I like the detail of the dress. This looks like a ballerina dress for the mature woman. I like it.

Eva Longoria. Sexy little flapper! I love her slicked down bob and the short dress paired with silver pumps. Her darkly lined eyes look amazing too.

America Ferrara. Very glam vampy. Beautiful necklace and I love the shoes. The dress drapes every which way and ends in a bubble, a bit above the ankle. Very different look seen on America but I like it.

Tina Fey. Simple makeup. Simple hair. Simple dress. Boring! I do like the dress but maybe in a burgandy or deep red shade to amp it up! It would be sexier!

Heidi Klum in a metallic silver sequined dress. Not liking the cape thing that drapes over one shoulder. Maybe I’d like this look more without that but it’s just too much sparkle!

Evangeline Lilly. Such a pretty name and girl. I like how all these celebs wear their hair parted and in loose waves, slightly loose in the front and then pulled back. Very elegant and classic. Her dress, I do like. I like the fun detail in a neutral shade.

Debra Messing. Ehh I’m not sure! I like the top of the dress and then the detail is very cool but I don’t like how it’s asymmetrical, that first layer. It throws it off. I think it would be more glamourous if it were symmetrical and less gothic!

Sandra Oh. Too much detail throughout this dress! The bow basically separates two different patterns. I think if the top part were strapless or plain black without detail, then I’d like it because I do like the bottom pattern. It’s edgy!

Vanessa Williams in a very artsy dress! Loving the black and white floral pattern with some baby pink thrown in there at the bottom of the dress. However, the thin, sequined strap over the shoulder that goes into the dress reminds me of a tacky prom dress.
