Colored Skinny Jeans Are Back in for Spring: How to Pull Them Off!

Fashion Feen’s 4th birthday just passed, wow 4 years of blogging! It’s very fitting that on my very first blog post on March 28th, 2008, I posted about colored denim being a hot new trend. How odd that the trend is seen again this Spring in 2012! Check out my first blog post here:

Colored Denim The 80′s Revamped

The colors were very pastel like and they still are popular today but even more neon colored jeans are being seen as well as royal blues and hot pinks. Don’t be afraid to wear some color in exchange for your blue jeans!

The way to pull this look off is by pairing with a printed top that has the color of the denim in there OR by wearing a basic black or white tee to simplify the look if you’re a little shy. They are really going all out though, pairing colored jeans with different colored tops such as green jeans with yellow tops like seen above. Alot more daring this year! If you go for opposite colors, make sure the colors are either complementary like orange and blue OR of the same hue/intensity. If wearing royal blue jeans, go for a hot orange top. If wearing a sea green or pastel green pair of jeans, go for a pastel or easter yellow as seen below. See examples below:

Seasons Change, So Should Your Denim

Whether you choose to accept it or not, cold autumn and winter months are fast approaching. Not as in tomorrow, but as in the foreseeable future which means that the responsible, organized folks out there will already be planning their new fall/winter wardrobes, just like the fashion houses of the world!

A substantial change in nature takes place with the changing of the seasons (i.e. loss of sunshine, loss of leaves, temperature dropping and people’s happiness dropping). Along with the nature, however, something else must change as well: you wardrobe and, more specifically, your denim.

Follow the example of the leaves- if they’re changing colors then your jeans should as well. It’s time to put your light-wash, summer jeans towards the back of the closet for a few months and instead turn to darker, warmer hues. Turn to brands like Rock Revival and William Rast to embrace the darker side of denim and initiate the fall fashions.

While darker colors have always been considered the right choice for the colder months, don’t be afraid to experiment with colors despite the lack of sunshine- think of your dark William Rast or Rock Revival jeans as your canvas for endless possibilities of color combinations for the rest of your outfit.

As we must adapt to Mother Nature’s changes, your denim should also transition effortlessly along with the seasons. For now, neglect your acid-washed, torn jeans and instead turn to darker shades to welcome the colder months.

Leggings, Jeggings, and Jeans, Oh My!

What’s really the difference between a legging, a jegging, and jeans? Well, leggings are of a thicker material than stockings, that is, they are not transparent, but they are definitely not pants! I just don’t think leggings should be worn with your booty hanging out. A long top should be worn over the leggings, because once again, they are not pants. Leggings come in a wide variety of colors and prints, as do stockings. Jeans and jeggings are usually black, blue, gray, and of different washes.

Jeggings are stretchy and fitted like leggings, yet they are not as thick or made of the same material as denim. They are called jeggings because they are a cross between leggings and jeans. They resemble a skinny jean but in a more stretchy and comfortable material. Jeggings typically don’t have zippers and pockets either. But some do. I have a pair of jeggings that resemble jeans so closely, but they have no zipper. They do have a button, however. But, typically, jeggings are meant to be pulled up over your legs and butt, and wa-la! They are on. Jeans require zippers, snaps or buttons to close. Jeans are definitely considered pants so long tops are not required, although permitted of course.

Hopefully this cleared it up for you. What will they come out with next?

Denim Rises

When you think of denim, the first thing that comes to mind is probably jeans. Maybe even a jean skirt or jacket. But a big denim trend for Spring 2010 in both men and women’s fashion, is the denim button-down sleeved shirt. We saw how flannel took over the Fall/Winter season for both sexes, well now it’s a nice, light, refreshing denim shirt for Spring!

So for the ladies, what do we pair with a denim shirt? Surely not jeans? Try this look I saw in Cosmo: pair a tucked in denim button-down, rolled up sleeves to the elbow, with a thick brown belt and a short floral skirt. Finish with cute cowboy boots for a western look or sandals for a girly look.

Or go for a long, boyfriend denim blouse thats half buttoned over little white shorts to balance out the look:

Men: Pair a denim shirt with white pants or even khakis to look like you just stepped onto a tropical resort.

Or keep it young and trendy by leaving it unbuttoned, sleeves cuffed, with a graphic tee underneath.

Skinny Jeans On Guys

If a guy is wearing skinny jeans, he’s most likely a skater/rocker type like this dude here. Now I’m not usually attracted to this type but some girls are. I’m not sure about this look. I don’t particularly like guys wearing jeans that are meant to show off curves and leg, it’s quite feminine. I like the baggier jean look on my men. A fitted jean is okay but nothing super tight and stretchy and especially not on guys who have skinny legs like mine! lol

What is your take on it? These below don’t look so bad.

Only because their legs aren’t too skinny and they aren’t super tight plus their cool boots n shoes kinda make it more masculine. But these below, with converse, not a fan!

Fall for Victoria Secret

I know all you ladies get the VS catalog in your mail practically every other day. They have a nice trendy feel to their fall line and I’d like to share with you, thanks to my friend Shawnie who noticed as well!

They’re more dressy wear has a very old romantic feel to it with lots of pleats, stockings, and silk in pretty lilacs and pinks. Fun, printed shoes are being carried into the fall.

Two-piece silk dropwaist dress. Get the entire look here.

Another big trend seen in VS is the laid-back, neutral, country look.

Tie-front babydoll jacket in vintage stretch twill. Get the whole outfit here.

Lots and lots of boots! This is the hottest fall trend. Boots in all lengths and styles. (See recent entry: Booties are Back).

Suede wedge boot. Get them here.

As for denim, all styles are still in but at VS we see a big emphasis on the wide-leg.

New Trend: Baggy Jeans?

Several A-list celebs have been spotted rockin’ baggy jeans, mens’ jeans to be exact. Actually these three celebs here are all mommys! So maybe it’s a celeb mama trend? A stab at being comfortable parading around town but still stylish? I don’t know. Check ‘em out.

Katie Holmes seems to be sporting the baggy jeans the most, as there are several shots of her in different pairs. Are they stealing their men’s pants and cuffing them? That’s what it looks like. I’m not really a fan, but at least they pair them with girly, fitted tops to balance it out.

Heidi Klum finished off her baggy jean look with some Converse. Kinda cute.

Who woulda thought Victoria Beckham would be caught dead in baggy jeans and flip flops? Well, here she is!

What do you think about the men’s jeans phenom? Would you try to pull it off?

Be Daring in Denim

I visited forever21.com and saw all sorts of styles of denim so I just had to blog it. I cannot wait until it’s warm enough over here in Jersey to wear shorts! The high-waist is in for denim this season. I’m not sure yet if I’ll be rockin it but I’ll be trying them on to see how it looks. I think it’s pretty cute.. very sexy, pin-up girl like. Here’s one pair as a high-waist and another candy striped short I couldn’t resist.

On to mini skirts. High waist once again along with candy stripes. I’m liking the stripes on denim. It’s different.

I think I might buy a pair of high waist jeans…with a tucked in top. Bringin’ it back. How about you? Would you wear them? Leave some comments!

The wide-leg is back in style too..and look how classy and appropriate they could be for the work place as well as out on the town!

I’m diggin the denim vests as well. Make sure you wear a shirt under them though! Also, don’t pair them with denim bottoms. Too much denim is tacky and old school.

Skinny jeans or straight legs are still in! Try some pinstripes to give the old skinny jean a twist. Or be bold in a bright color to spice up last year’s trend!

Colored Denim..the 80′s revamped

Turquoise Denim - Drjays.com

Pink Jeans - Drjay.com

Tired of the same old dark denim, dirty denim, and all those other washes and shades of blue? Well you’re in luck because this Spring and Summer, colored denim is back in! You might be thinking, “Eww, that’s so tacky and 80’s!” But, don’t judge just yet…there’s so many shades, colors, tints, and each style is totally modern! These jeans can look urban, classic, or even punk depending on the color, and how you wear them. They look great as a skinny jean, but they also make them as flares and even cropped. See pictures. Hot, right?

How to pull them off: The jean is your fashion statement. That means, don’t go overboard with accessories and colors elsewhere. For example, if you’re wearing yellow jeans, yellow earrings OR a yellow bangled bracelet is fine, but don’t wear all of that at once! DON’T pair yellow jeans with a black top either. Opt for a printed floral top to soften the look. Also, these colored jeans should be form fitting, so I’d go for a looser, flowy, long top to balance it out. Or, a ribbed white tank with any colored denim would calm the look down a bit, if you’re wearing a bright hue. I wouldn’t go crazy with shoes either, something neutral or simple, black or white, no crazy prints unless it has your shade of denim in them. If you do that, make sure your top isn’t too busy. You want everyone looking at your jeans, not being distracted or confused by your crazy top and shoes as well!

And most of all..you have to have confidence to pull this look off! Don’t be scared! Buy a pale bluepink, or yellow hue to start if you’re not sure of this look. Or white jeans. White denim is always in style during the warm season. So are you daring enough to pull off some color this season? Do itttt.

P.S. I’m SO buying these turquoise jeans! Hottttt
